Welcome to NASCPA

Welcome to the website of the Nigerian Association of South Central Pennsylvania, also known as NASCPA. Incorporated in 1993, we are a non-profit organization consisting of immigrant Nigerians now residing in South Central Pennsylvania. Our goal is to continue to promote and project the rich Nigerian culture and heritage, and to give back to the community through fund raising efforts to benefit various charities and community projects.
We have yearly activities such as our annual picnic in June, dinner banquet in October, Christmas party in December and educational field trips to places of interest. October 2010 nascpa will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Independence of Nigeria at C. Ted Lick Conference Center, located inside Harrisburg Area Community College, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
The Nigerian Society of South Central Pennsylvania with its limited financial resource has been able to support various organizations within the community, such as the Sickle Cell Council of the capital region, Boys and Girls Club of Greater Harrisburg, and the Business School at John Harris High School. We hope to extend our support to charity organizations in Africa, Nigeria being the first among our targeted recipients.

Our association is presently working hard and looking forward to building a Nigerian -American Friendship Center, which would further strengthen good relationship between Nigeria, United States and other African communities.

As you navigate our website, keep in mind that you can always get more information about us by contacting us at info@nascpa.org or call 717-412-8299. Our address is 2025 Scott Meadow Lane, P. O. Box 10, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania 17108.

Nigeria Is Desirous For Good Governance -- by Alexander Rajis
--as appears in Nigeriaplus.com--

Speech Delivered on the Occasion of  Nigeria’s 50th Independence Anniversary Celebrations of the Nigeria Association of South Central Pennsylvania (NASCPA) on October 9th, 2010 by Mr Alexander Rajis, President (NASCPA).

On behalf of the Nigerian Association of South Central Pennsylvania (NASCPA), I welcome our keynote speaker; Hon. Minister, Olusegun Ibidapo-Obey, representing His Excellency Ambassador Adebowale Ibidapo Adefuye, guest speaker; Sonya M. Toler, representing Honorable  Governor Edward G. Rendell (Pennsylvania, USA), special guests; Hon. Stephen Reed, former Mayor of City of Harrisburg, Dr. & Mrs. Alvear, President/Founder of World Surgical Foundation, Inc., Colonel & Mrs. Shafa, Federal Republic of Nigeria Army, our distinguished ladies and gentlemen to NASCPA’s seventeenth annual banquet dinner in commemoration of Nigeria’s 50th independence anniversary.

We are honored by your presence here tonight. Since 1993, NASCPA has been hosting Nigerian independence anniver-sary banquet on annual basis, this year’s celebration is significant because we are celebrating Nigeria’s golden jubilee. At fifty, Nigeria is compelled to reflect back and evaluate her progress since independ-ence. But has Nigeria really achieved any tangible progress worth introspection?

John F. Kennedy said, “A nation’s character, like that of an individual, is elusive. It is produced partly by the things we have done, and partly by what has been done to us. It’s the result of physical factors, intellectual factors, and spiritual factors.” Nigeria can be defined as such; a nation so blessed and yet still struggling to gain her equilibrium.
